Creepy Better Chicken
Creepy Better Chicken is an online fake news archive that presents alternative narratives from the randomly chosen words in an existing news report. It includes the head/tail mode to view the generated/original contents. The original intention to make this project came one day when I was reading the news online. I saved the news photo and saw the file name was shutterstock_14. This sparked a curiosity about how easily narratives can be altered and how meanings can shift, leading to the creation of Creepy Better Chicken.
The name Creepy Better Chicken comes from a slip of the tongue. It should be “crispy butter chicken” but my friend read it as creepy better chicken. This occasion shares similities with the creative potential of language as well as its role in altering information and defining reality. Since there is an ambiguity of meaning inherent in the communication of both language and the internet, the website is a piece both creating and revealing the cultic communication. After the words and images are disconnected from their original context, people are able to view the generated narratives in alternative social, political, or simply humorous ways.
